James Moffat scored a career best fourth outright in Sunday’s 200 kilometre event at Queensland Raceway.

Starting from a competitive 11th, James charged hard through the field in what is being described as the “drive of the race” to pass many big name competitors on his way to his best V8 Supercar finish yet … and outstanding result for a series rookie.

“Had a lot of fun, made some mistakes, the guys gave me a great car and did a good job in pitlane … it all contributed. I’ve got to be pleased with the outcome and hope we can build on it from there.”

A day earlier, James drove to 10th and ninth placed finishes in the two Sprint races.

Sunday

  • James qualifies a competitive 11th
  • ‘Drive of the race’ impresses on-lookers
  • Career best fourth placed finish

“I really enjoyed myself today. The car was great and it was a lot of fun passing people. I learned a lot and I made a couple of mistakes, otherwise I might have been on the podium. But I’ll take it, it’s a good feeling to race at the front of the field.”

Saturday

  • James qualifies a frustrated 22nd, baulked on his best lap
  • Storming drive in race one from 22nd to 10th
  • James backs up with another strong drive to 9th in second race

“It was half a good day. Qualifying we didn’t get right but in both races the car was quick, and our new brake package makes a big difference, we were able to pass a lot of people.”

Friday

  • Impressive pace in all four practice sessions
  • Changes made to the car since last test reap rewards
  • James finishes just outside the top ten

“Yeah, pretty good day really … since our test a week ago we made some changes and it’s really helped the car, it feels good and its quick, I am pretty pleased with how the day went.”
